John S. Appelbaum, Jr. joins Rose Legal Services with experience in criminal appeals, post-conviction matters, civil litigation, and complex motion practice. Licensed in Missouri and Illinois, he brings a careful, research-driven approach to every case and a longstanding interest in criminal law.
John earned his Bachelor of Science in Technical Writing from Missouri State University, with a minor in International Relations, before receiving his Juris Doctor from Saint Louis University School of Law. His technical-writing background helps him translate complicated legal, scientific, and evidentiary issues into clear, understandable terms.
He began his legal career with The Cagle Law Firm, representing people in serious personal-injury matters. That work gave John courtroom and litigation experience while reinforcing the importance of understanding each client as a person and presenting the full story behind a case.
In 2022, John joined the Missouri State Public Defender, where his practice focused on direct appeals and motions for post-conviction relief. He handled appellate briefing, oral argument, complex motion practice, case investigation, and juvenile advocacy. The role sharpened his ability to analyze a record, identify critical legal issues, and explain them persuasively.
Before joining Rose Legal Services, John worked at Chartwell Law on serious trucking-accident litigation, handling complex motions, discovery analysis, case investigation, and appellate briefing. He now draws on that broad experience to prepare cases thoroughly, communicate clearly, and make sure each client’s story is heard.
